• HPT, Areafix and Points

From Joachim Probst@2:240/6309 to All on Saturday, February 15, 2020 15:22:06
    Hello everybody!

I am running my system on a RPI and started back in fidonet with an installation of the 'fidian' project. Works all fine for month now.

Slowly adapting the basic installation to my needs and wishes I am now at the point to expand to points, one sysop-point for the start (giving me a better playground outside the official fidonet for testing).

    Point definition all works fine.

But trying to use Areafix from the point to subscribe to areas ('local' network
areas or official fidonet areas) will not work. The netmails to my nodes areafix arrive correctly at my node ... and stay there in the NETMAIL area. Unprocessed.

Trying to work with 'hpt afix' manually triggered (maybe only a hook in the config is missing) and having an areafix mail with only 'LIST' in it produces a
netmail to the areafix of my uplink with trying to subscribe to an area named 'list' which my uplink doesnt know and rejects thankfully.

Any idea where I could take a closer look for more information about the proper
configuration of that? All I found here or in the internet about hpt and areafix did not really help so far.

Thanks and have a fine weekend,
    Joachim

not sure about this but the logs on the node should provide a clue...

this sounds like the areafix wants "%LIST" or similar... you should be able to look at the node's areafix help and see what the proper syntax is...

    Hello Joachim,

But trying to use Areafix from the point to subscribe to areas
('local' network areas or official fidonet areas) will not work. The netmails to my nodes areafix arrive correctly at my node ... and stay there in the NETMAIL area. Unprocessed.

If you add "AreafixFromPkt yes" to your main config messages to areafix will be
processed when you toss new mail. Without that you'll need to run "hpt afix" in
    your inbound processing somewhere.

Trying to work with 'hpt afix' manually triggered (maybe only a hook
in the config is missing) and having an areafix mail with only 'LIST'
in it produces a netmail to the areafix of my uplink with trying to subscribe to an area named 'list' which my uplink doesnt know and

the proper configuration of that? All I found here or in the internet about hpt and areafix did not really help so far.

There are example areafix and filefix help message text files in hpt/misc and htick/misc that you can use with the "helpFile" keyword in the "Robot Areafix" or "Robot Filefix" section of your config that explains how to use areafix/filefix.

    Thanks! Missed that keyword somehow.
Now everything seems to work like expected!
