I am a gun enthusiast, I enjoy hunting and shooting and I am not going
to walk away from my guns. I do think the way some use guns to
support their cause is wrong. For example, armed people
showing up downtown to demand this, that, or the other thing.

I have no problem with the way that you use your gun(s). I've seen some
TV shows talking about game wardens which discuss having bow seasons and
black powder muzzle loader guns. Have you used either of those?

And those other people you mention often have semi-automatic weapons
slung over their shoulders. Do you see a use for civilians having such weapons, e.g. AR15?

why do you support guns. Your second paragraph implies that you would

I support guns for hunting and self defense. Just because I do not
understand hunting doesn't mean I think it should be illegal. Golf requires unnecessary use of land and the need to wear goofy outfits but I would not restrict someone's right to waste an entire Sunday doing.

I support guns but I've actually never understood hunting.

Point, and shoot. Not necessarily in that order.

    I just don't get it.

    First you get a gun.
Then you point it at something.
    Then you pull the trigger.
If you hit something, jump for joy.
    If you miss, run away.
    As fast as you can.

Unless you have no means to feed your family or you must earn your living
trading pelts at the Hudson, its about as pointless of a display of penis-comparisons-contests just like golf.

I live in the swamp. There is plenty to eat here, for those who
like nutria. Used to trade pelts years ago, but that was before the
state started paying $6 for just the tails. Now I just 'choot 'em.

Unlike Canadians, I never participated in penis-comparison-contests.
However, such contests are nothing like golf. Not in these parts.
I have played golf in the swamp. There is a 9-hole golf course,
on prison grounds, at Angola. I never made it through the entire
course, having hit far too many golf balls into the water, but I
    did survive the alligators.

Make the hunt more interesting by hunting something that can shoot back and
    I'll be a huge fan.

A true hunt is between a hunter and his/her prey. Not two hunters
going after each other. That is a war, not a hunt.

Maybe prisoners sentenced for life can stop enjoying themselves at the
taxpayers expense and substitute themselves for the wildlife in the woods?

What incentive would there be for two lifers to go at each other?
They cannot be released, as both are a danger to society. Gotta keep
them in confinement, so the rest of us can remain safe.

I was born a male and continue to be one and have zero desire to change. What you are saying is very true, we have no idea what a woman goes through. My wife (yes, born a woman, remains a woman, no desire to change) and I have had four children together. We miscarried at least one between child 2 and 3. We also have an adoptive 26 year old. The hardest part for me was knowing that I lost the opportunity to meet my child 29 years ago and again 17 years ago. For
my wife, the miscarriage that occurred 17 years ago was very hard on her but we
    go through it.

Agreed. Ironic, isn't it. I think it comes down to choice for women to do what they wish with their bodies (abortion) but make the criminal who committed
capital murder spend the rest of their life in prison to "effectively" atone for their crimes.

    At least be consistent...

I know. As one of my old bosses would say to me, "Brian, you are consistently inconsistent."

This may seem weird, but since Shipp asked it should be addressed.

Anyone who would ask ordinary American citizens `So what would you use guns for' ought to be refered to two true stories from the late 1800's; The end of the James/Younger gang, and the end of the Dalton gang.

Both of those gangs of outlaws were brought to an end by ordinary citizens who were armed and ready to stand up to outlawry; the Dalton's in Coffeyville, Kansas, and the Youngers and James bunch in Northfield, Minnesota.

If there were a few modern instances of either or both of those scenarios, there'd be a lot less criminality in neighborhoods, far less mass shootings than there have been in recent decades, and drive-by shootings would be either extremely rare, or disappear altogether.

But lefties will come up with dozens of excuses as to why honest citizens should NOT have the use of firearms available to them.

The only `gun control' needed is the Second Amendment. Anything that deviates from the Second Amendment is oppression.

The Second Amendment is always used as an excuse on the how, what, and why someone wants a gun, owns a gun, or discharges a gun. Although the drafters of
the Second Amendment wrote it under the auspices of the time, Americans never wanted to update it because it gives them blanket rights to gun ownership instead of intelligent rights.

Then you are not a true Catholic.

A *true* Catholic would have used a condom!

A true Catholic is against birth control. I was following orders. :)

But lefties will come up with dozens of excuses as to why honest
citizens should NOT have the use of firearms available to them.

First -- I am not a leftie. Second, I have not advocated the removal of
all firearms from honest citizens. Third, I do not understand why any
honest citizen has any use for an AR15 or similar weapons of mass
    destruction.

I know somebody who killed a baby possum with a BB gun loaded
with plastic pellets. I imagine she could have done the same using
an AR15 that is fully loaded with real ammo. But that would have
been overkill. I doubt if any of the remains of the baby possum
would have been found afterwards (assuming she would have been able
    to hit the target).

    Hello Tim,

    I was raised Catholic. I got a
girlfriend of mine pregnant when we were teenagers.

Then you are not a true Catholic.

    Be fruitful and multiply.

That must explain why Adam and Eve chose to wear a fig
leaf after they had been caught eating the forbidden fruit ...
